What is dextron ii atf?

Dexron II is an automatic transmission fluid (ATF) that was produced by General Motors (GM). It is a mineral oil-based fluid that was introduced in the late 1970s and was used in many cars and trucks that had automatic transmissions until it was phased out in the early 2000s. Dexron II was designed to meet the performance requirements of GM's Hydra-Matic transmissions and provided excellent lubrication, wear protection, and resistance to oxidation and thermal degradation. It also had good frictional properties and offered smooth shifting and transmission performance. Dexron II had a viscosity of around 7.5 cSt at 100°C, which made it suitable for use in a variety of transmission designs that required a fluid with a mid-range viscosity. Today, there are newer and more advanced ATF formulations available, with Dexron III being the most common successor to Dexron II. Some manufacturers now also recommend synthetic ATF formulations, which provide superior performance and longer lifespan than mineral oil-based fluids like Dexron II.
